I have a Cart Viper 3.2 install with the Event license.  At this time I have no products only events for purchase.  I have enabled single page checkout.  In previous versions the user was presented with Billing Address and Shipping/Mailing address fields with a check box for "Use Billing Address."  However, on this install, I only have Billing Address fields.

Are Events, Donations and Digital Downloads now all treated the same?  In other words if it is not a physical product that is to be shipped/mailed, such as events, are the shipping/mailing fields supposed to be hidden on the single page checkout form?  I noticed that in the SinglePageCheckOut.ascx file that the checkbox and shipping/mailing fields are there in the code, just not visible on the rendered page.

Hi Steve,

Yes that's correct, we found that customers were not charging shipping on events so the shipping section was irrelevant in their scenarios so we hide it in the same manner as downloads, donations , etc.

If you want it back for your events go to store admin -> store info -> general settings and select "charge shipping on events products".

Regards
Nigel.

Nigel,

Thanks for the reply.  I do see a need to have it both ways at times.  One of the sites that I manage where we use Cart Viper, is a charitable non-profit, and we use the cart to accept online donations.  In this case, I obviously do not want to charge shipping, but I do want to collect the mailing address.  We are required to send a thank you/confirmation letter to donors for donations.  some organizations use the automated email response for this.  Our organizations prefers to go old school and send hand written thank you letters.  So if the donor's billing address is not the same as the mailing address, this presents a problem.

I know that I could probably switch to Three or Four step checkout, but conversion is better with Single step checkout.  Would it not be better to at least have the check box for Same As Billing visible and checked just below the billing address fields with the mailing fields hidden even when we are not charging shipping?  Then if the end user unchecks the box, the mailing fields would then become visible. That way you can achieve both.  Either that or in the admin menu separate out charge shipping on events and hide mailing address into two different settings?

In another scenario on a different site, the one I originally posted about, we use the cart for event registration.  The events are continuing education courses for professional, and most of the attendees course material can be delivered by digital download.  However there is a course where we still mail the attendee a physical book and the shipping cost is incorporated into the cost of the course. Yet again here is a need to have it both ways and still be able to use single step checkout.

Just some food for thought for future releases.

Steve
