Hi,

I have a store based in Europe and would like to use the VAT feature alongside with the VAT Number.

When my client purchases from outside of the EU, no VAT tax is added (right behavior). But when it purchases from the EU, no matter what was entered in the VAT Number field, the VAT tax is always added.

So my questions are:
- what is the VAT number format that must be entered ?
- what kind of VAT validation is done to decide whether or not to charge VAT tax ?
- related to the previous question, why the module do not avert the user the entered VAT number is not valid ?

I cannot imagine that the VAT is not taken into account to compute tax rate or in this case, this feature is totally useless (additional input field that do not change the cart behavior...).

Thanks for considering my request,
Rico.

Hi,

The VAT number feature is effectively a "free text" where the user can optionally enter their VAT number that is recorded against the order (there is no validation on the number entered).
As you point out this number does not effect the VAT amount that is charged, VAT is calculated based on VAT rules you have defined along with their billing country entering a VAT number has no effect on the VAT charged.

Thanks
Nigel

Hi Nigel and thanks for the quick answer.

Is it planned to (or can you add this to your current road map) improve this feature by adding an on-line validation and if the VAT number is correct (and seller and buyer are in two different European countries) to not charge VAT tax ?

If you plan to implement this feature, can you give an approximate release date or a delay ?

Thanks again for your support.

Hi support.

Have you any update about this feature (online VAT validation & do not charge VAT if number is valid and store and buyer are located on different EU countries) ? Is it planned to be implemented ?

A simple Yes (with an approximate delay) - No answer will be appreciated.

Thanks again
Rico
