Is there a way to set what number the order number begins at?  Also, my client has an issue in that the order numbers skip  (i.e.  1045 then 1050 as the next order)  I assume that the numbers in between are orders that were abandoned, but I cannot view them.  Is there a way to force the order numbers to generate in sequence (without the gaps)?

By executing the below sql via host -> sql you will start the next order ID at 3000, note it is very important if you change the order ID it is a bigger number than the last order ID in the table cvstore_orders

dbcc checkident('cvstore_orders',RESEED,3000)

You are correct the missing numbers are orders that were never completed, we have a graph showing the number of abandoned carts in the store admin -> sales stats or alternately you can look in table cvstore_orders. Due to the way CV works you will not get consecutive order numbers.

Thanks
Nigel.

I would urge you to reconsider this design of disappearing order numbers (because of an abandoned cart) in the sequence.  It alarms my clients as well because it is not a good accounting practice.  An auditor would take serious issue with this because of the lack of audit trail.

It would be better to record the order number in the order table (and the order report) showing the abandoned order numbers with "abandoned cart" next to it.  So it's like a canceled order.

Better design: In other checkout systems that I have implemented, an order number is not assigned until the cart is completed and a payment or option to pay later has been verified.  That is how accounting is supposed to work.  If the checkout process is not completed 100%, it is a quote/estimate, not an order.

Hi Brian

We totally agree that the order numbers need to be improved so that they are consecutive and hence you no longer will see order number gaps. It would make the system appear to work better for the client/store owners.

We wouldn't display the abandoned orders in the UI.

As you would imagine its a lot of work to implement the change. We would be happy to add this to roadmap so that a future version of Cart Viper will have this feature. If you would like to see this implemented in the next few weeks we would be prepared to subsidize this work and only charge a day for implementing when its going to take a lot longer. If you are interested in sponsoring the feature please email me at mark@cartviper.com

Regards

Mark
