Hi,

We are using Cart Viper to sell "products" that are actually subscriptions (via User Role access), with recurring billing set up through Authorize.net ARB. We have ~ 100 "subscribers", all on Authorize.net, whose ARB account we set up manually. Now we are taking full advantage of the recurring billing feature of the CV shop. Plus, we now have discovered that those subscribers whose credit cards are expiring can come to the My Account page to update their credit card info.

My question: can those folks who we manually converted to ARB now come to the My Account page to update their credit card info? Or, will that function only for those people who actually purchased as a recurring billing item?

Thanks

Pat J

Hi Pat,

Cart Viper can only list subscriptions that were created by orders from within the Cart Viper store. One other point to note a customer / admin will be notified if a recurring billing fails and they can cancel a subscription from the "my subscriptions" section in CV. However they can not update their credit card information from with CV.

Thanks
Nigel.

Nigel,

Thanks for the response. Sorry I was not more clear. These ARE accounts that were created in Cart Viper. But, they began as a single-transaction, which was then manually converted to a recurring billing at Authorize.net.

I guess I should just test it out - even if it means changing the product back to a non-recurring billing for the test, and then switching it back.

Will let you know what I find out!

Thanks,

Pat

Nigel,

OK, I tested it out, and this is what I have confirmed:

1. CV transactions that begin with a Unit Price, and then are converted manually at Authorize.net to a subscription, are not recognized as Subscriptions in the My Account module. (At least not in the very short time frame I gave it.)

2. CV (and Authorize.net) separate "Orders" from "Subscriptions". So, when purchasing a product set up with a recurring price, the purchase shows up in My Orders; subsequent billings are in the My Subscriptions tab.

3. Cancelling the Subscription does not cancel the first charge; one has to go to My Orders to cancel that.

From your reply, it appears that going forward, CV will generate an email to purchasers of Subscriptions if a transaction has failed. (Right now, we get those notices from Authorize.net, but they do not send anything to the actual customer.) That will be a definite help!

Thanks! (And CV is a great shop for us, BTW!)

Pat

Hi,

1) That's correct only if the subscription is purchased via Cart Viper will it appear there.

2) That's correct.

3) Correct that will only cancel future subscriptions not the initial purchase amount.

That's great you like the store.
Nigel.
