Can you please answers the following questions on Cart Viper:

  • Can we create a product that has a variant on Recurring Interval like a product that has a monthly and yearly recurring intervals as variants which will eventually change the price and recurring intervals accordingly?
  • How to restrict the sale of a product based on another product? i.e., A product "A" can only be bought along with product "B" and you cannot buy it by itself. Is this possible?
  • Can we customize the Order Pdf that gets generated and sent to the customer on every order? I know that we can add a header and footer but do we have control on the contents of the Pdf like hiding some stuff? If so, how?
  • Can we have purchase history and manage subscriptions on the same page instead of two separate pages?
  • Can we add items to the cart from our custom code? Is there a pattern of query strings that need to be passed to add items to the cart?

Hi Raghav

Let me answer each question in turn.

  • Can we create a product that has a variant on Recurring Interval like a product that has a monthly and yearly recurring intervals as variants which will eventually change the price and recurring intervals accordingly?
While you can create variants that can affect the price or shipping weight of an item it is not possible to have the variant selection correct the recurring setting for the product.
If you wanted to define a product as recurring then you can do this on the product details tab in the edit section. We only support a limited number of recurring payment gateways. Authorize.net is the main gateway we support.


  • How to restrict the sale of a product based on another product? i.e., A product "A" can only be bought along with product "B" and you cannot buy it by itself. Is this possible?
This isn't supported out of the box in Cart Viper. We do however have an interface that you or us can code against to enforce product restrictions.
If you have a lot of conditional products and logic rules it maybe something we could create. The interface to enforce the restriction is the straightforward part, the issue will be how you are going to manage defining the rules since there isn't a UI which does this. You could just pull in the model numbers from a XML file which defines the rules.
If this is something you want to attempt yourself let me know and I'll give you more information.

  • Can we customize the Order Pdf that gets generated and sent to the customer on every order? I know that we can add a header and footer but do we have control on the contents of the Pdf like hiding some stuff? If so, how?
As you state you can control the header, footer and logo. Anything needs to be coded up since the PDF engine doesn't support any template engine.
We have an extension point in the batch print PDF feature which allows us to create a custom class which will layout the PDF with the data you need. This is something we would need to quote you for. If you could provide me with a sample of the PDF then we can give you a figure.

  • Can we have purchase history and manage subscriptions on the same page instead of two separate pages?
I think we'd need to create a custom control which adds this two separate controls to the page. Happy to add it to the quote for the other items.

  • Can we add items to the cart from our custom code? Is there a pattern of query strings that need to be passed to add items to the cart?
All products are added to the cart using an ajax call. Therefore if you look at the call we make using Firebug when adding something to the cart this should give the url and parameters that you need to provide.
We do expect to have some custom cookie values in the request, the cookies are created by the Cart Viper modules. Therefore its important that you the customer first visits a page with a CV module or that module is present on the page with your custom code.
