Hi,

I've noticed that CV stores the product variants in it's own table with a row to represent a variant for a product.  But when an order is made, the order table stores all the variants for the product ordered in one column.

I was wondering if it would be possible to create another table that stores the purchased item variants in the same way the product variant table is stored.  For example if I order a shirt, I would like to see a table that stores 1 row for each variant (color, size, etc) and linked back to the order.

The reason I'm asking is that if this was stored in this way on the order, making custom reports on the table of variants is easier than trying to figure out how to concatenate the variants out of the one column.  And due to a person could make any variants they want, you would have to modify the custom report anytime a variant on a product change, whereas if it was stored the other way, the only thing I would have to do is link the order to the variant purchased table.

I realize this may cause a major re-thinking of how it was architected, but it could be possible or if you have another idea, please let me know.

Thanks

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Yes that's correct changing that would be a largish undertaking, we actually store the variants as serialized XML. Can I ask how you are creating your reports?

If you are writing an application to make these you could reference our CartViper.Modules.Store.dll , then you could use our OrderController to get then get the fully populated order objects that in turn would give you the populated variant objects. Once you have them you could loop through the objects and create any reports you need, it might also be easier in the long run as you don't need to guess where we store data as you can use our strongly typed properties?

Thanks
Nigel.
