When we give away a product in Cart Viper, either set to free OR a 100% discount code:

+ customer gets a purchase reciept
+ the New User is created on the DNN (v 8.0.x) side with the proper roles

However, the customer should get a "Welcome New User" Email with the system generated password from DNN...this is not happening.

The "Welcome New User" email works as (1) we have members signing up all the time and (2) when we sell a plan and money is paid, the user gets the email.  . But when we try to give away a product via Cart Viper, that email isn't being generated.

So far my resolution has been to manually reset their password and send a separate email so they can log in. Do you have any idea why a free product wouldn't trigger that email even when a new user is created?

Thank you,

~ Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Can you confirm how the new user account is being created?

From your description I think the steps are:

1) Purchase a product anonymously.

2) Customer see our green success confirmation message and clicks the below message:

"Click here to create a new user account."

3) Completes registration form CV will then display.

It is at the final point the DNN registration email is not being triggered?

Nigel, there is no confirmation page for any of our Digital Products via CartViper...the user gets a "Purchase Completed" screen, with a link to view a PDF of the order (they receive this via email as well)

Basically, the customer's email address (entered at checkout) is automatically used to create a USER ID and the password is generated by DNN.

I vastly prefer your option...how would I make that happen?

Hi Patrick,

Its hard to follow from your description how exactly your store is configured but I assume you have the setting "auto create anon user account" turned on within the Cart Viper my account module settings, you would need to turn that off and we should then output the link to register an account in the confirmation message.

Based on the fact your store sells digital downloads it may be an option to disable anonymous checkout altogether, that way a customer can always login to their account at any point in the future to download their files. Rather than relying on them using the same browser that contains the encrypted cookie that contains their anonymous order ID.

Nigel, thanks for your continued support.

We don't sell downloads, we sell access to an online resource. So the Anon Account Creation element is required to assign DNN Roles to the user such that they can view what they have purchased. When I toggle the switch to remove "Anon Account" the user does get the prompt, but the account created doesn't have the requisite roles.

Is there any setting I can toggle / check to see why this email is not being generated for a free product even though it is generated for a paid one?

Again, thank you,

~ Patrick
