Is there a feature within Cart Viper that will help us with the following scenario?

If one of our salespeople provides pre-sales support to a customer (resulting in the customer placing an order through the web site), we'd like to be able to give the customer the ability to indicate which salesperson helped him so that the salesperson can eventually be given a bonus/commission on the sale. A possible way of doing this might involve prompting for the salesperson's ID number (if any) to be entered during checkout. I have also considered using coupon codes for this (with each coupon code uniquely identifying a salesperson), but am unsure I want to give an additional amount off simply for the ease of tracking the salesperson.

Also, if there is a way to accomplish this with existing functionality, how complicated would it be to produce a report to serve as the basis for these bonus/commission payments?

Thanks in advance for your response,
Warren

Hi Warren,

You have identified the closest we have to this feature by using coupon codes, if you do not want to give the customer an additional discount you could set the discount amount to "0" so this would just record the coupon against the order. Then in the coupon admin you can see how many times a given coupon has been used. It would also be possible to change the wording so it no longer refers to this as "coupon" but "sales rep ID" so it does not look strange to the customer that they are entering a coupon code but not getting an actual discount.

If you wanted a more integrated solution we could provide a quote for this.

Thanks
Nigel.

Thanks for the feedback, Nigel. I have decided (for now) to implement the coupons as you suggested.

I customized a CartDetail.ascx.Portal-0.resx resource file to use the wording "Salesperson ID" instead of "Coupon", but if I enter an invalid ID, I see an error "Coupon code is not valid". The problem is, I don't see this particular string in the resource file(s) - where can I change this string so that the wording is consistent?

You can test this on my new site at www.safelypinnedladder.com - just type a random string into the Salesperson ID field and click the "Apply Salesperson" link to reproduce this issue.

Thanks in advance,

Warren

Hi,

That text is stored in the resource file:
SharedResources.resx

There are several different error messages based on why the coupon was rejected, I suggest opening up the file and searching for "coupon" and you will find all the messages we use.

Thanks
Nigel.
