When testing a PayPal transaction in sandbox mode, the order goes through normally on the PayPal side and returns back to the site, but the order status never changes to paid and the order notification callback never gets called.  Everything works on a credit card transaction though.  I have not tried a live PayPal transaction.  Shouldn't the sandbox mode process the payment just like live mode?

Hi

Paypal uses something called IPN to send a silent notification to Cart Viper to inform the store when the order has been completed and paid in Paypal.

From what you describe it would sound like you aren't getting the IPN notification. I would suggest you work through these suggestions.

1. IPN only works when you have a pubic facing site. Using your local machine, localhost or 127.0.0.1 for the site won't work since Paypal will be unable to post data to the server.

2. The IPN callback is sent to the my account page in the portal. Therefore this page must be available to anonymous users since the callback has no credentials for the portal.

3. If you are still having issues you can have a look at the order details log when you are looking at the order in the back office. This will contain some logging information we record about the payment. So if you are having issues please post this data for the test order into the forum and we'll give you further advice.

Regards

Mark

I'm actually testing on the live site and have the My Account permissions set to All Users.  I see on the PayPal side there is an IPN simulator, but it requires a URL for the handler.  What url should I use for that?

I'm not sure what you mean by "back office" for finding the order log data.  Are you referring to the PayPal admin or the cart admin?

BTW, thanks for the fast response.  I was able to get your cart up and running and completely configured with handlers, skin and everything in less than six days-- which is equal to the amount of time I spent just trying to get through support with the first of many bugs with Smith Cart!  I can't wait to go live with this cart and kick Smith Cart to the curb, it's unreal that free updates with them is only a three month time period, then after six months you have to pay full price again!  And the sad thing is you will HAVE to buy it again because it has so many bugs!  I'm so relieved to be able to break free of that thing, I didn't realize there were any good alternatives until I found Cart Viper.  Not sure why my research didn't find you guys initially, since it was only a year ago that I was first looking for a cart module.  After Smith Cart turned out to be such a mistake I was beginning to think that there just were no good carts for DNN.  So yeah, you guys are awesome!  And free updates forever?  That's unheard of.  The way things are going I'll probably never even need an update though, because everything seems to just WORK with the current version.  Imagine that.

Hi Kyle

Thanks for the positive comments about Cart Viper! Yes customers that purchase a CV license get life time upgrades.

On the order which you attempted to purchase with the Paypal Sandbox can you just click this button "Show Audit Trail" and share the results?

Regards

Mark

Here is the data dump.  It looks like maybe the IPN was called and maybe the callback routine returned an error so the status was not switched to paid?
